……Connie’s appearance was always neat and unassuming but, despite her straitened circumstances, you knew she wouldn’t be content to remain a poor relation for ever……
THE ILLUSTRATION BRIEF
SUMMARY
A murder-mystery ‘whodunnit’ set in the 1930s.
THE SCENE
Four people are gathered in a 1930s drawing room to discuss a murder – a la
Agatha Christie/Poirot.
CHARACTERS
Detective Inspector Grimes is standing; he’s wearing a suit, in his fifties.
Seated are:
Miss Rachel Vyse, in her twenties, a ‘bright young thing’ and successful writer of detective
stories, who is engaged to Lord Dutton
John Henderson, early forties, the refined and gentlemanly estate manager
Connie, a girl in her early twenties who has found herself in straitened circumstances.
They are awaiting his verdict – who is guilty of murder? Everyone is wearing suitably 1930s
garb. We don’t have to see them clearly – just the impression of a group gathered, listening
intently.
